Frequently asked questions

What is Showboat?

Showboat is where your team shows off what it just deployed. After a deploy, your coding agent captures a narrated walkthrough of the live feature and pushes it here as a Take. Every Take of the same feature lands on one Show, so the feature has one home that people follow and comment on.

How does a capture get into Showboat?

The capturing agent runs in your own repository. It drives your deployed app, takes a screenshot of each Shot, writes a short Narration for each one, and pushes the Take to Showboat with your Project's ingest key. Showboat never runs a browser and never visits your app. The exact steps are in the capture contract, which the MCP connector serves as a resource.

Who can see what we push?

A Take is visible to your Workspace's Members as soon as it arrives, through the Teams that can see its Project. Guests see it only after a Member marks it Client-ready. Sketches and Parities follow the same rule: your team first, clients only once released.

What are Sketches and Parities?

A Sketch is a design question worked as several live mockups, called Directions, that people vote on before the feature is built. A Parity measures screens against a reference, such as a port or a before-and-after, and lists each difference it finds as a Finding. Both belong to a Project, next to its Shows.

What is a Newsreel?

A Newsreel is a feed of what shipped, written for your clients. Your agent can propose a Story from a recent Show, and a Member edits and approves it before anything is published. Only published Stories are public; your team's internal Narration never is.

What is the MCP connector, and what can Claude do with it?

The Showboat MCP server lets Claude work in your Workspace after you sign in with OAuth, with your permissions and no more. Claude can read a Show's open Comments, check whether a new Take arrived, mint and revoke ingest keys, and propose Stories for a Newsreel. The MCP tool reference lists every tool and says which ones change anything.

How do I get an ingest key?

A Member mints one on the Project's settings page, or asks Claude to mint one through the MCP connector. The key is shown once, when it is minted, and Showboat keeps only a hash of it. Store it as a secret in your CI or in a gitignored environment file, and revoke it from the same page if it leaks.

How do I invite a client?

Invite their email as a Guest from Settings, under Members, and choose the Project they may see. A Guest sees and comments on that one Project only, and only on work a Member has marked Client-ready. The invite expires after 14 days, and you can resend or revoke it until it is accepted.

Can one person belong to several Workspaces?

Yes. One Account, meaning one email address, can hold a seat in several Workspaces and switch between them. An agency, for example, can be a Member of its own Workspace and a Guest in a client's.

How do I remove a Member, and what happens to their access?

An Owner removes them from Settings, under Members. They lose access to the Workspace, and any Claude connection they made to it is revoked. Their Comments stay where they were written, so the conversation keeps its history.

Where is our data stored?

Showboat's database, file storage and app servers run in the EU, in Ireland. The privacy policy lists the services we use and where each one runs.

How do I delete our data?

An Owner can remove a Show or archive a whole Project, which hides it from everyone, including clients and Claude. Both keep the history so the work can be brought back, so neither erases anything. The privacy policy explains how to ask us to erase your data for good.
